About this project
*Work in progress Grid Commanders is a free turn-based tactics game you play in the browser, built in Godot with typed GDScript and inspired by Advance Wars. Every unit spends a movement budget the terrain sets — roads are cheap, woods are slow, mountains take only foot soldiers — and the ground a unit ends its turn on decides how much of an incoming shot it soaks. The roster runs across land, air and sea in a rock-paper-scissors shape, so no single unit wins. Money comes from the map rather than a build queue: infantry capture towns, factories and airports, each property pays income every turn, and that income buys the next tank. Commanders bend the rules and charge a Command Power meter that fires when it is full. There is an authored campaign with briefings and story, skirmish against a computer opponent that issues the same commands under the same rules, up to four armies in free-for-all, 2v2, 3v1 or a duel, a map editor, optional fog of war and full touch support on phones and tablets.
